Crews began demolition Wednesday at the former Tudor Boulevard home of 56-year-old Keith Griffith. Griffith is charged with killing his wife of 36 years and setting fire to the home in January 2014. A deadlocked jury in Griffith's murder trial lead to a mistrial being declared in February.
McCracken County Commissioner Bill Bartleman released the following statement regarding the demolition:
"I and other residents of Reidland are glad the house is finally being cleared. I understand and appreciate the fact that Judge Kaltenbach left the house standing for several months to make sure there was no evidence that would be important to the criminal case. None was found but it was necessary to give the defense attorneys every opportunity to search the property so that it would not be an issue later on. But after one year and nine months it is time for this reminder of a tragedy in our neighborhood to be cleaned up.
All of us are thankful that no one was injured or hurt, especially children and teens that may have been attracted to the site as an adventure. I also want to thank Mr Griffith's insurance company for its diligence in having the site cleared and for paying the cost. Now, all of us in Reidland can put this horrible event behind us."
