A fugitive was arrested Wednesday night in downtown Paducah.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office says that detectives were conducting surveillance at a downtown apartment building after receiving information that 31-year-old Chaz Caneer, of McCracken County, was in the building.

Caneer was wanted on several outstanding warrants from Ballard and McCracken Counties.

Shortly after 8:15 pm, detectives saw Caneer leave the apartment building and get into a vehicle on the parking lot. When they approached the vehicle, Caneer fled on foot, but was taken into custody after a short chase.

Detectives allegedly found marijuana and cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales on Caneer. They also allegedly found a rifle, methamphetamine, digital scales, and syringes in his vehicle.

He was arrested and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail on several drug charges, fleeing or evading police, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Caneer has a lengthy criminal history and was on felony parole at the time of the arrest.
