A two-vehicle crash on Highway 286 in western McCracken County on Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a Virginia woman.

An investigation by McCracken County Sheriff's Deputies found that 52-year-old Crawford Shirley, of Wickliffe, was westbound on Highway 286 at 1:05 pm. At the same time, a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Alexandria Hailey, of Richmond, Virginia, was northbound on McKendree Church Road.

According to a witness to the crash, Hailey entered the intersection without stopping or slowing at the stop sign. She entered the intersection in front of Shirley's vehicle, which caused a T-bone collision.

Hailey was trapped in her vehicle but was freed by members of the Concord Fire Department and personnel from Mercy Regional Ambulance. She was taken to Baptist Health Paducah where she died a short time later.

Rain in the area is believed to be a contributing factor to the collision.
