A new home decor and furniture store is set to open at Kentucky Oaks Mall.

According to a press release from the mall,  the 44,000 square foot HomeGoods store will open in October in the space previously occupied by Elder-Beerman. HomeGoods specializes in brand name furniture, linens, cooking products, art, seasonal decorations and other home accessories offered at discounted prices.

When the store opens its doors, it will be the only HomeGoods in western Kentucky. HomeGoods was founded in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1992, and currently comprises a chain of more than 700 stores.

The opening of HomeGoods comes amid openings of other new merchants at Kentucky Oaks Mall this year, including Burlington, Ross Dress for Less, H&M and Shoe Dept. Encore.

Yankee Candle recently closed its location in the mall, while Gymboree and Crazy 8 are currently liquidating their merchandise after their ownership filed for bankruptcy for the second time in two years.

The mall's press release says discussions are also reportedly underway with other merchants interested in opening for business.

The CFSB Children’s Play Area is also reportedly in the process of being relocated to the J.C. Penney concourse.  A grand reopening will take place on March 23, coinciding with the arrival of the Easter Bunny at the mall.

Work crews also plan to install new lighting, carpeting, décor and other improvements throughout the mall.
