A Paducah man has been arrested in connection to Monday night's hotel robbery.

The Paducah Police Department followed up on a Tuesday arrest by the McCracken County Sheriff's Department after a traffic stop. Deputies said 26-year-old Cory Phillips had committed several traffic violations and was reportedly nervous. Deputies say they found a laptop that had been previously reported stolen, as well as a shirt similar to one police officers had recovered at the scene of the attempted robbery of Country Inn and Suites on McBride Lane.

That robbery attempt was thwarted by a hotel clerk who grabbed the suspect's pistol when he put it on the counter so he could place cash in a bag. The man fled the scene in a dark-colored car.

Along with the shirt, police say they found a University of Alabama sock hat, similar to one worn by the robbery suspect. Police also say the gun had been reported stolen by the same person who reported the stolen laptop.

After hearing about these similarities, a Paducah Police detective interviewed Phillips and charged him with 1st-degree robbery and receiving a stolen firearm.

Phillips was taken to McCracken County Regional Jail.

From the traffic stop, he faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license, receiving stolen property valued under $10,000, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to wear a seat belt.

Police are seeking the public's assistance with identifying a robbery suspect allegedly stopped by a hotel clerk.

According to the Paducah Police Department, a man arrived about 10 pm Monday at Country Inn and Suites on McBride Lane with a handgun, demanding money.

Officers say after the clerk placed the money on the counter, the robber put his gun on the counter-top in order to put the money into a plastic bag. The clerk told officers that she grabbed the gun and pointed it at the suspect, who then ran away. The man allegedly came back into the business, prompting the clerk to point the gun at him once more, causing him to leave in a dark-colored car.

The man is described as thin and white with curly blond hair, wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt, jeans, white shoes, with a white shirt around his face and an University of Alabama sock hat.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Paducah Police Department at 270-444-8550. Information can also be provided through the West Kentucky Crime Stoppers by texting WKY and your tip to 847411, or by downloading the WKY Crime Stoppers app from any app store.
