Traffic was restored on I-24 late Thursday morning after a hazardous materials crew cleaned up spilled herbicide at an accident involving two semis near the Marshall - McCracken county line.

The accident occurred before 1 a.m. near the 17-mile marker. Some barrels were thrown from the truck, and some of the herbicide leaked.

Eastbound traffic was restricted to one lane until about 10:20 a.m.

One injury was reported from the accident. McCracken County Sheriff's Deputies said 67-year-old Ricardo Contreras of Donna, Texas reportedly fell asleep and collided with the rear of the other semi driven by 39-year-old Joshua Anderson of McDonough, Georgia.

Contreras was taken to Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital, and later flown to an out-of-state hospital for treatment.
