The question surrounding the salary of the McCracken County Coroner will have to wait on legal research.

McCracken County Judge Executive Bob Leeper explained Thursday morning to Greg Dunker on WKYX, that the Fiscal Court looks at different areas of the county government and the appropriateness of funding them. They discovered an issue with the Coroner, that the county has paid more than like sized communities, and intended to lower it. He said, "all these rules for county governments are kind of vague."

According to Judge Leeper, many of the coroner's salary increases have not been made correctly under KRS 64.530. He also explained that the county attorney, Sam Clymer, is currently researching this, to see what can be done, how much, and when to do it. This will determine what corrective action can be taken.

Amanda Melton, the unopposed candidate for McCracken County Coroner in the November General Election, has started a Facebook petition to keep the position full time and adequately funded. It further suggests that any major decision involving the office of Coroner should be tabled for one year until the new Judge Executive and potential Commissioners are elected.
