The McCracken County Library's "Drop Your Drawers" campaign was a success.

Library staff shared a photo with results on their Facebook page Wednesday, saying 1,023 pairs of children's underwear were donated. They will be distributed to Merryman house and Paducah Cooperative Ministry. The library said this year's total was an increase from last year, by more than 100 pairs.

The "Drop Your Drawers" campaign ran from November 26 through December 30. It's recognizable to many since author and illustrator Dav Pilkey has allowed his popular character Captain Underpants to be used in it.

The library said the results were, "amazing news," and that, "Captain Underpants would be proud!"

Pilkey's books were on display in the library during the campaign. The books revolve around two fourth-graders and their homemade superhero comic books. Captain Underpants accidentally comes to life when they hypnotize their school principal. The books have been made into a Dreamworks motion picture and a television series on Netflix.
