McCracken County's Public Library plans its 101 series and sparks interest in a wide range of unique topics. Programs are free and open to the public and are led by experts in their fields.

Magic 101 (Part 2)
Jun 20, 7 – 8 pm
Presented by Todd Duff, founder and CEO of Innovations Branding House, a nationally acclaimed, award winning marketing firm in Paducah, Kentucky.
This second part will focus on Todd's latest tricks and popular illusions performed at the House of Cards (Nashville, TN), as well as mental effects and unique mind reading techniques.

Hummingbirds 101
Jul 16, 7  – 8 pm
Led by Naturalist John Pollpeter, LBL Woodlands Nature Station
Hummingbirds 101 explores the fascinating lives of these tiny, winged wonders and learn about their amazing migratory journey. You will also find out how to provide food and shelter that will attract them to your own yard.

Wattier will discuss how the U. S. Census Bureau will count “everyone, once, in the right place!”

Emergency Preparedness 101
Aug 29, 7 – 8 pm
Led by meteorologist Beau Dodson
Learn tips from local meteorologist Beau Dodson in being prepared in the event of severe weather, flooding, or possible earthquakes. He'll cover the emergency equipment your family should have on-hand, how to spot hazardous weather conditions, and how to utilize social media and other online resources for safety.

The Making of the First Quilt Mural: The Quilt City USA Murals Project 101
Sep 5, 7 – 8 pm
Presented by Lead Artist Char Downs & Project Administrator Jay Downs Siska Ed.D.
In this presentation  the unique mural project will be discussed including : the mission, city support,  jury selection, and student education. The presenters will explain the prep and painting process as well as sharing the location of the 24/7 Quilt Gallery.

Kentucky Divorce Workshop
Sep 26,  7– 8 pm
Led by Catherine Fuller, staff attorney at Kentucky Legal Aid.
In this 101 series workshop, Catherine Fuller, attorney at law, will give a presentation concerning the legal process of divorces in Kentucky.  She will provide basic information concerning the court process, addressing issues with service of the divorce petition, what to expect in a divorce proceeding, and answering general information concerning common issues with the legal process of divorces in Kentucky.

Case Closed: Death Investigations 101 with the Coroner
Oct 17,  7 – 8 pm
Led by Amanda Melton, McCracken County Coroner and Kentucky licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer
In this program, Amanda will discuss the criteria for coroner investigations and the responsibilities of the coroner’s office.  She will have sample case reports, toxicology reports and kits, and other investigative tools to review with the participants.
It’s guaranteed that an interesting question and answer session will take place after her presentation.  Her unique credentials make this a “don’t miss it” opportunity.

Protect Your Invention, Artwork, or Idea: Patents, Trademark, and Copyright 101
Nov 14, 7 – 8 pm
Led by Julie Tennyson, Marcum Tennyson Law Firm
This seminar is geared toward helping creative people determine whether they can be protected with a patent, trademark, or copyright; what protection they may already have; and how registering copyrights and trademarks and applying for a patent can protect them online and in e-commerce.
