A Paducah man was sentenced Tuesday on charges related to an elder abuse case from 2018.

The McCracken Circuit Court Clerk said Lance Carter received two sentences of five years each, which will be served consecutively for a total of ten years in prison. He plead guilty in March to second-degree assault and exploiting an adult.

Carter's wife, Rebecca, will be sentenced in June after she plead guilty to charges from the same investigation related to a 91-year-old victim, for whom Rebecca was hired as a caregiver.

Both Carters were arrested in July 2018 after the elderly woman reported an assault to family members. McCracken Sheriff's Detectives said they learned the Carters bought several thousand dollars worth of tools and equipment using the victims' credit card, then sold the items at a pawn shop.

Lance Carter assaulted the victim during an argument at her home, and when Rebecca took the woman to the hospital, she said the woman fell down some stairs.
