"Market House Square is made for this kind of activity," said Michael Cochran, Executive Director of the Market House Theatre. ". . . a natural setting for this kind of event." And the crowded streets proved his point Saturday during the Community Fair, organized by Cochran to celebrate the theatre's 50th anniversary.

Downtown organizations came together to offer lots of free hands-on children's activities, a kids day in the arts so to speak. Some were calling it a kids' arts in action. Complete with free ice cream, water, music, all kinds of child-friendly games and projects - it was a huge success.

While the fair took place in the street and on the sidewalk along the east side of the Market House, the west side remained open to vehicular traffic. Shop owners on both sides of the historic area were pleased with all the activity - and a steady stream of customers. "It's been a great day with lots of shoppers and people coming in. We are delighted," remarked Marilyn Cassity, owner of Cassity's on the west side of Market House Square. Cassity's is celebrating its 15th year in business and welcomes such events in downtown Paducah. "We look forward to downtown events, and the more streets that are left open to normal traffic flow, the better it is for downtown merchants," said Cassity, also a former Main Street Director for downtown Paducah.

As the Market House Theatre celebrates its 50th year producing award-winning plays, Cochran marks his 30th year with the theatre. You can ask anyone who has worked with Michael and wife April, they continue to bring creativity and energy to a new levels for Paducah's Market House Theatre. If you've ever attended one of the community plays, you know this is no ordinary operation. Visit www.mhtplay.com and see what we're talking about.

Bravo for Market House Theatre! What a blessing its staff and volunteers are to Paducah.
