Market House Theatre kicked off its 55th season with the ultimate feel good Broadway hit show: Mamma Mia!  The show opened September 6th and runs through this Sunday, September 23rd. 

The sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise where, on the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. Her former disco-diva mother is clueless as to why these three men have shown up on the island. 

ABBA’s timeless songs propel this sparkling tale of love, laughter and friendship. Energetic dance numbers punctuate this joyful and uplifting show adored by audiences everywhere. 

The Mamma Mia! cast includes many MHT veterans and several newcomers as well. Mother and daughter Kim Yocum (Les Misérables) and Emily Yocum Black (The Wizard of Oz) play the mother-daughter duo Donna and Sophie Sheridan. Donna’s back-up girls Tanya and Rosie are played by Janet Bloomingburg (Young Frankenstein) and Victoria Kitchen (Barefoot in the Park). Ali and Lisa, Sophie’s best friends, are played by Amber Dawn (Zombie Asylum) and Adrian Holloman (Sister Act).

Sophie’s fiancé, Sky, is played by MHT newcomer Andrew Castleman, and his buddies Pepper and Eddie are played by Mark Taylor (Peter and the Starcatcher) and MHT newcomer Russell Jones. Possible fathers Sam Carmichael, Bill Austin, and Harry Bright are played by Tony Bohannon (Mary Poppins), Robert Carter (Les Misérables), and Josh Morehead (The Addams Family).

The ensemble is rounded out with newcomer Andrea Brame, Gracie Craft (Sister Act), Lisa Holm (music director of Sister Act), Andrea James (Sister Act), Audra Turner (Motherhood Out Loud), newcomer Hailey Watson, Millie Wyant (The Best Christmas Pageant Ever), Lucas Bohannon (Mary Poppins), and newcomer Elijah Garrett.

Band members include Dawn Evans, Dale Julian, Jim Patton, and Jacob Waid on keyboard, Adam Horbovetz on electric and acoustic guitar, and Tony Kitchen on drums. Jake Siener and Bryan Chapman will play bass.

Michael Cochran, MHT Executive Director, directs the show, with Denise Bristol as Assistant Director/Stage Manager.  Dawn Evans provides music direction, and Emily Chapman Hensel is the choreographer.  Set design is by Kevin Shelby, with lighting design by Tom Hansen and costumes by Angela Hoerner. 

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances begin at 7:30 pm. Sunday matinees begin at 2:30 pm.
