A Marshall County man died Wednesday morning when his truck collided with a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet vehicle in Mayfield.

According to Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon, the Transportation Cabinet was spraying the median of the Purchase Parkway in a flatbed truck. The truck was traveling at a slow rate of speed in the passing lane of the Parkway near the 24 mile marker. Another KY Transportation Cabinet vehicle was following behind the spray truck.

Deputies said a truck driven by 70-year-old Joseph Armiger of Benton passed the first Transportation Cabinet vehicle on the right side and then drifted into the left lane, colliding with the rear of the spray truck.

Armiger was trapped in his truck and was extricated by the Mayfield Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Graves County Coroner's Office. The driver of the spray truck, 52-year-old Timothy Perryman of Smithland, was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The liquid grass and weed killer in the tank of the spray truck spilled onto the northbound lanes of the Purchase Parkway. That section of the Parkway was closed for more than two hours for clean-up and accident re-construction.
