“The American flag makes most people pause for a moment and think about what it means to be a citizen of the United States of America,” said Mayor Gayle Kaler.  “Flags are patriotic symbols that depict history, struggles, and successes.”

As an extension of the Mayor’s Art Club, Mayor Kaler is asking for artists to submit photos, drawings, paintings, etchings, or fiber art of the American flag.  All forms of art are acceptable.  Mayor Kaler said, “The artwork doesn’t have to be entirely focused on the flag.  For example, a beautiful building or landscape with the American flag flying in the picture would be considered.”

Artists who would like to have their flag art considered for display should send images of their artwork to mayorsartclub@paducahky.gov by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.  Submissions must include contact information including the artist’s phone number.    Students are encouraged to submit their work for review.  The Mayor’s Art Club is limited to artists and students who live in McCracken County.

The selected pieces will be hung in the foyer of City Hall from Memorial Day through the July 4th holiday.  Once on display, the public will be able to view the patriotic artwork when City Hall is open, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Kaler initiated the Mayor’s Art Club in January.
