The McCracken County Public Library has acquired a new online resource that will make it possible for you to learn computer programming, hone your photography skills and get tips on writing your resume all from the comfort of your home.

Lynda.com is a website that offers more than 3,000 courses and over 130,000 videos that cover topics like web design, business skills and media production. The service typically charges users a subscription fee of at least $19.99 month, but starting now McCracken County Public Library cardholders can access all of Lynda’s content for free.

“Learning and discovery are a core part of our library’s mission, and we are thrilled to bring to our patrons this premier online learning platform,” said Library Director Susan Baier, “With Lynda.com businesses can provide employee training, teachers can acquire professional development, hobbyists can hone their skills and entrepreneurs can learn how to take their business to new heights. We are pleased to connect our patrons to high quality content that gives them the skills needed to pursue their personal interests and professional goals.”

Patrons can get started with Lynda by logging in through the library’s website and creating an account with their library card number and a password of their choosing. Once an account is created, patrons can watch any video in the Lynda library, create playlists, download courses and bookmark pages. Library cardholders can access Lynda at the library, on their personal computer or on their mobile device via the Lynda app.

Lynda.com’s courses are taught by certified instructors and professionals. They are more in-depth and have a higher production value than many tutorials on YouTube. The website is owned by LinkedIn.

To start learning with Lynda.com as a McCracken County Public Library cardholder, visit https://www.mclib.net/lynda and select, “Create a Profile.”
