Approximately 250 people crowded into Courtroom A at the McCracken County Courthouse Sunday afternoon to see county officials take the oath of office.

Circuit Judge Tim Kaltenbach presided over the investiture service, and because of the standing room-only crowd, the schedule was altered. Sheriff Matt Carter and his deputies, detectives and staff were sworn in first, since there were over 70 of them. They were followed by Jailer David Knight and his staff of over 50 employees. As they left the room with their families and friends, the crowd was much more manageable.

In fact, before the ceremony began, Judge-Executive-Elect Craig Clymer joked to those who were gathered that once their loved ones were sworn in, they were welcome to stay, "but to be honest, we hope you don't!"

The crowd greeted his comment with laughter, but understood the solemnity of the events that followed, as judges, attorneys, clerks, commissioners and other officials promised to fulfill their responsibilities to the citizens of McCracken County.

Prior to administering the oath of office to Judge-Executive Clymer, Kaltenbach commented on his former colleague of seventeen years, saying he is a man of extraordinary skills.

"I think that this county will be in good hands for the next four years. I know he will do the same type of job he did as Circuit Judge who saw on an everyday basis."

Sheriff Matt Carter and Sheriff's Department and staff
