A McCracken County Deputy Jailer has been honored for his selfless actions last year.

On Nov. 9, a detective with the Paducah Police Department, was out with a suspect at Taco Johns, at the corner of Irvin Cobb and Bridge streets. The suspect became non-compliant with the detective and a scuffle ensued.

During the scuffle the detective lost control of his radio and was unable to call for assistance. McCracken County Deputy Jailer Ernie Scarritt was driving by and observed the incident. Without hesitation or regard for his own safety, he immediately assisted the detective and both were able to bring the suspect under control and into custody.

Because of his actions. McCracken County Jailer David Knight has presented Scarritt with the “Jailers Commendation.” Knight says Scarritt's selfless actions bring great credit upon himself, the corrections and law enforcement communities, and the citizens of McCracken County.
