The McCracken County Sheriff's Office has released its 2019 Annual Report.

In the report, Sheriff Matt Carter says his agency has taken strides to advance the professionalism of the office, as well as strived to make the community a safer and more difficult place for criminals to operate. The report lists crime statistics for the area, including violent and property crimes, as well as highlights department milestones and other notable events in the past year.

Violent crimes including murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault and property crimes including burglary, larceny/theft, and arson are all listed in the report. Most violent crimes were down for the the year, with the exception of murders and assaults. Sex offenses other than rape were also up from last year.

Deputy Zach Dunigan was recognized as Deputy of the Year. Before coming to Paducah, Dunigan worked as a Graves County deputy. He completed the Police Academy in 2016, and received his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Murray State University in 2012.

Detective Dustin Awbery, who joined the agency in 2016, was given the Detective of the Year award. Awbery and other detectives with the department's drug unit seized more than 15 pounds of crystal methamphetamine in August, with a street value of over $500,000.00. This was one of the largest crystal methamphetamine seizures in McCracken County's history.

Six deputies; Kyle Latta, Dwayne Pickett, Kevin Lynn, Ryan Burrow, Jeffrey Hartman and Ronnie Giles received Life Saving awards for saving the lives of victims while performing their duty.

The report also highlights the recent deployment of life-saving equipment including nine automatic defibrillators, life vests and throw ropes for water rescue operations, and Narcan doses to help save victims of drug overdoses.

"The dedicated members of this department advanced the professional service provided to the community in 2019. In turn, our dedication has quickly developed the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office into one of the leading offices and a model agency for professional standards in the Commonwealth of Kentucky" Carter said.
