A coach from Michigan is facing assault charges in McCracken County, after police say he punched a referee at a sporting event.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to the Sports Plex on US Highway 60 West on Saturday morning to a report of an assault. Deputies said 40-year-old Keyon Menifield of Flint, Michigan punched a referee during a disagreement, knocking him unconscious. Menifield then reportedly fled the area.

Deputies found Menifield at a local hotel a short time later and arrested him on a charge of assault of a sports official. He was booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail.
