The National Weather Service reports that locally heavy rainfall we received on New Years Eve will add to already high water levels on the Ohio River, enough to issue a flood warning for the Paducah portion of the river through next week.

At noon on Wednesday, the Ohio River at Paducah had a gauge reading of 40.2 feet. Minor flood stage at Paducah is 39 feet. The weather service says the river will rise to about 42 feet by January 9, but should quickly drop below flood stage. The official flood warning now extends through January 11.

At 39 feet, minor flooding occurs affecting mainly bottomland and surrounding low-lying areas.
