The camp offers a variety of activities tailored to the challenges stroke survivors face, including crafts, games, music, water aerobics and hiking/walking. There are also educational sessions, discussion groups and informal chats with stroke experts.
Cheryl Crouch, coordinator of the monthly Stroke and Head Injury Support Group, said the camp is always a positive time for everyone involved, from the patients to the caregivers and even the volunteers themselves.
“One of the previous campers told me ‘After my stroke, I didn’t think I would ever have fun again but the camp proved me wrong!’” Crouch said.
The event is hosted through the joint efforts of Crouch and the Murray-Calloway Endowment for Healthcare. The deadline for participants to sign up is Thursday, July 31. Volunteers are welcome and needed for the camp.
Residents within Calloway County may attend the camp for $50, and those outside of Calloway County may attend for $100. For more information, call 270-293-9442 or come by the Endowment office at MCCH on the second floor of the North Tower.
