The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has added a protected/permissive turn phase for westbound US 62 traffic at the “T” intersection with US 68 in the Reidland area of McCracken County.  This intersection is about a mile north of Interstate 24 Exit 16.

This means that traffic moving west on US 62 from Marshall County will now have a protected opportunity to turn left onto US 68 eastbound, while all oncoming traffic is stopped at the intersection.  The signal transitions to yellow and to green, where motorists may turn safely at their discretion after yielding to oncoming traffic.

The signal upgrade is designed to allow traffic on all three legs of the intersection to move more efficiently. The signal previously had only a protected turn phase that required oncoming traffic and turning traffic to stop for longer periods.

Motorists should be aware of this new protected/permissive turn phase and adjust driving habits to changes in traffic flow it will create at the intersection.
