PTHS Students Selected for KY Governor's Scholars

Paducah Tilghman High School juniors  Kate Criner, Andrew Katz, Quinn Atnip, Samuel Lambert, and Ryan Chua have been accepted to the 2019 Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program. 

The Governor's Scholars Program is a prestigious five-week summer program that is limited to 1,020 of the state's most outstanding students. 

Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience.

The program is designed to help the participants achieve their academic and personal potential, encourage leadership skills, and to develop their creativity and critical thinking skills. The scholars will convene this year at Northern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, and Murray State University.

Kate Criner is a member of the PTHS speech and debate team, academic team, tennis team, mock trial team, Interact, and band. She is an alumnus of Paducah Youth LEAD, and is the co-founder of Real Talk, a discussion group for teens on youth mental health. Her parents are Jamie and Andy Criner.

Andrew Katz is a member of the PTHS tennis team, mock trial team, Interact, National Honor Society, and Beta Club. He is a student intern on the Paducah Human Rights Commission and is an alumnus of Paducah Youth LEAD. His parents are Mary and Brian Katz.

Quinn Atnip is a member of the PTHS soccer team, National Honor Society, and Beta Club. He is an alumnus of Paducah Youth LEAD. His parents are Kelly and Mark Atnip.

Samuel Lambert is a member of the PTHS golf and tennis teams, National Honor Society, and Beta Club. He is a student intern on the Paducah Human Rights Commission and is an alumnus of Paducah Youth LEAD. His parents are Sarah and James Lambert.

Ryan Chua is a member of the PTHS orchestra, academic team, National Honor Society, and Beta Club. Ryan is a member of the Boy Scouts of America. His parents are Rona and Dr. Winston Chua.

“I am very proud of the thoughtful way these students have approached their high school careers, following their passions and having a positive impact in activities they love,” said Assistant Principal Jonathan Smith. “I know each will bring an important, unique perspective to the Governor’s Scholars Program.”
