A Paducah man was arrested early Sunday morning after police say he fled and crashed into a building at Park Avenue and 21st Street.

According to Paducah Police, an officer saw a vehicle parked at Boyd and North 8th Streets with the lights on and the engine running twice early Sunday morning. The third time the officer saw the vehicle in the same location in a two-hour period, he stopped to check on the driver.

Police said when the officer stopped, the vehicle began pulling away and turned onto Harrison Street. The officer activated his emergency lights, and the vehicle stopped. As he walked up to the driver’s door, the officer said the driver, 34-year-old Xsavier Cleary looked at him and sped away. Moments later, Cleary crashed into a building at Park Avenue and 21st Street, causing minor damage.

Police said they found $3,521 cash, a .45-caliber handgun, 6.1 grams of marijuana, synthetic cannabinoids, drug paraphernalia and an open alcoholic beverage in Cleary's vehicle.

Cleary was booked into McCracken County Regional Jail on charges of trafficking in synthetic drugs (first offense), possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree criminal mischief, first-degree fleeing or evading police, possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of synthetic cannabinoid agonists or piperazines, and on a warrant charging him with first-degree trafficking in synthetic drugs
