A Paducah police officer was involved in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning while attempting to stop another vehicle for speeding.

According to the Paducah Police Department, Officer Keith Thuline was on his way to a collision in the parking lot of Hannan Plaza when he saw a vehicle speeding. Thuline activated his emergency lights and attempted to catch up to the vehicle in an area where Alben Barkley drive narrows from two lanes to one lane.

He was attempting to pass vehicles that were driving in the left-hand lane when an SUV swerved to avoid a pickup truck that was stopping in front of it. Thuline swerved to avoid hitting the SUV and his cruiser ran off the road and hit a tree and fence.

Two witnesses stopped to aid Thuline and confirmed his account of the crash.

Thuline was checked at the scene by paramedics, but was reportedly uninjured.
