The National Weather Service says the Doppler radar in Paducah will be shut down for a about three weeks for repairs.

An engineering team from the Radar Operations Center in Norman, Oklahoma has reportedly determined that the main gear for turning the radar antenna has failed. This repair will require 12,000 to 15,000 pounds of equipment and a six-person team to fix the radar. The team anticipates the radar will return to service by May 11.

During the downtime, adjacent NWS radars will be operational to provide a look at area weather conditions.
