A six-foot python survived a single-vehicle accident on Highway 286 Wednesday.

Emergency responders found a python crawling from the window of a crashed car around 1:58 am Wednesday.

The investigation revealed that 21-year-old Taylor M. Griffith of Kevil, was westbound on Highway 286. For reasons unknown, her vehicle left the roadway and hit a mailbox at the 11500 block. The vehicle then struck a ditch, causing it to flip onto its roof.

Griffith was under the influence of alcohol when the collision occured. She was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries she received.

Griffith was cited to court, charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, first offense; failure of owner to maintain required insurance, second offense; and criminal mischief, third degree. The criminal mischief charge stemmed from damages she caused to the mailbox.

McCracken Sheriff Jon Hayden says the snake is in "protective custody", with a nearby resident who is keeping the snake until Griffith is released from the hospital.
