Police are warning the public of a telephone scam involving a call from someone who claims to be a Paducah Police detective.

The Paducah Police Department says someone contacted officers after getting a call from “Det. Jason Hicks,” who said there were "outstanding federal warrants" for the person.

When asked for specific information, the caller reportedly hung up.

The department does have a sergeant named Jason Hicks. However, local police departments do not issue federal warrants. Additionally, it is not the practice of the Paducah Police Department to notify anyone by telephone of outstanding warrants.

The department reminds citizens to never provide personal or financial information over the telephone.
