The screening committee for McCracken County Schools has presented the school board with a candidate for superintendent.

A special called meeting of the school board is scheduled for 7:00 pm Sunday, where the board will immediately go into executive session to interview the candidate. It's not known if the board will vote to reject or hire the candidate after the interview.

Pete Galloway of the Kentucky School Board Association has been working as a consultant for the screening committee. He told West Kentucky Star the committee had thirteen applicants for the job, and interviewed two last Sunday and one on Wednesday. From those three, the screening committee unanimously chose to present only one candidate to the board.

While Galloway said the board has the right to hire someone else, similar to when they hired former Superintendent Brian Harper in 2017, he doesn't believe they would do that this time. Galloway said his impression is that if the board doesn't approve of this candidate, they would ask the screening committee to find another candidate.

Galloway said the candidate is from the western end of Kentucky.
