After complaints from residents, a stretch of road near McCracken County High School could soon be permanently closed.

At Monday's McCracken County Fiscal Court meeting, the commissioners authorized two county highway department employees to review the closure of 1,300 feet of Old Hinkleville Road from Old Hwy. 60 to Roy Lee Road.

"People were coming around the barricades and driving down through there and tearing up the soil, as well as coming through and coming on out on old 60. SO what we're proposing to do here is to close the road all the way back to Roy Lee Road to the Y, which  previously was  closed. And then scarify and remove that pavement and let all that real estate go back to the owners on each side," said Deputy Judge Executive Doug Moore.

The road was barricaded several years ago to prevent potential accidents, especially by high school students.

Based on the information received, the fiscal court could choose to schedule public hearings, which are required by state law, to discuss permanently closing the road and removing the pavement.
