Single-Engine Plane Crashes in McCracken County

A single-engine airplane crashed shortly after 1:00 pm on Saturday in southeastern McCracken County.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a residence in the area of Wadesboro Road and Hardmoney Road, where they found 68-year-old Steven B. Thompson, who said he had been piloting the airplane when it crashed.
 
Thompson was able to free himself from the plane and make it to a nearby home where first responders assisted him.
 
He was air-lifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for treatment of injuries.

As of 8:00 pm Saturday night, Thompson’s immediate family reported he was in stable condition.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office notified the Federal Aviation Administration, who will investigate the crash along with the National Transportation Safety Board.
