A recently completed study has concluded that an outdoor sports facility would be more beneficial to McCracken County than an indoor one.

The $15,000, 106 page study conducted by Pinnacle Indoor Sports recommends the county build an outdoor facility with room for four standard size soccer games, up to 20 youth soccer games, and eight baseball games. An outdoor location would also allow room for expansion in the future if the need arises, according to the study.

The study goes on to say that an indoor sports facility would be too costly for long term viability, but adds that Paducah's location and population, along with its lack of current outdoor synthetic turf fields, would make an outdoor facility ideal for the area.

County and City leaders have been discussing plans to build a new sports facility for several months. A recently passed transient room tax will allow for 3 percent to go towards the McCracken Sports Tourism Commission, which would help fund the new facility.
