Three more cases of novel coronavirus have been confirmed in McCracken County.

The Purchase District Health Department says there have now been eleven cases of COVID-19 since the first diagnosis on March 23.

All three new patients have been notified that they tested positive for the virus on Wednesday and they are self-quarantined at home. They are a 75-year-old man, a 74-year-old woman, and a 41-year-old man. The health department says they are in stable condition. No other information about them has been released.

As with other cases, health officials are working to identify and notify anyone who may have come into contact with these three, and any close contacts will be asked to self-quarantine and monitor their symptoms.

Kent Koster, Public Health Director of the Purchase District Health Department, repeated that the best way to avoid spreading the virus is to avoid being exposed. However, there are simple preventative actions anyone can do to help prevent the spread of this virus:

+ Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

+ Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

+ Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

+ Stay home when you are sick.

+ Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

+ Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

This virus can be spread by respiratory droplets. Symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever, cough or shortness of breath.   Individuals who are experiencing symptoms should first contact their primary care medical provider.
