A traffic stop in McCracken County Saturday night led to the arrest of a southern Illinois woman on drug charges.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office, a deputy conducted the traffic stop because the vehicle's rear license plate was not illuminated and its registration was expired.

A search of the vehicle reportedly revealed the driver, 60-year-old Cindy Smith of Brookport IL, was in possession of methamphetamine.

Smith was arrested and booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail. She's charged with possession of methamphetamine, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, no registration plates and rear license not illuminated.
