While dealing with Quarles, officers noticed the white SUV had caught fire, and a passenger identified as 22-year-old C-Bonesha J. Merriweather was trapped inside. Officers were able to get Merriweather out of the vehicle and took her to safety.

Quarles is being charged with third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking, first degree and second degree fleeing or evading police, first degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Merriweather is being charged with complicity in third degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking, and first degree criminal mischief.
