A Reidland couple was arrested Monday afternoon after a drug investigation.

In early August, McCracken County Sheriff's drug detectives began investigating suspected illegal drug activity on Sheehan Bridge Road. This led to execution of a search warrant Monday at the home of 31-year-old Levi and 29-year-old Ashley Glover. The couple was at home at the time.

Detectives were assisted by officers from Kentucky Probation and Parole since Levi and Ashley are on probation from previous drug charges. During the search, K-9 officer Oscar alerted to the scent of drugs in a vehicle in the attached garage.

In a joint press conference Wednesday with Marshall County Sheriff Eddie McGuire, Carter said, "During a search of the vehicle, detectives seized two duffel bags containing more than 15 lbs of crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of over $600,000."

Carter said this is the largest single seizure of meth in any McCracken County case. Detectives also seized cash believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug sales.

Levi and Ashley Glover were arrested on charges of trafficking in a 1st degree controlled substance (meth) 2nd or subsequent offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Levi has eight prior convictions and Ashley has four convictions, all for trafficking in a controlled substance.

Sheriff Carter said that his detectives will continue to investigate all drug-related crimes, hoping to see an eventual decrease in other crimes, too. Carter believes that many cases of theft, domestic violence, burglary, assault or homicides stem from illegal drug use. He said incarceration may not be the answer in every drug case.

Carter said, "Our sincere hope is for everyone that has fallen victim to the addiction of illegal drugs to become rehabilitated and participate with the overwhelming majority of our citizens in being a productive pillar in this community. We are also in preliminary stages and desire to develop a first-response strategy for individuals in addiction crisis  to help overcome these addictions and make resources more accessible. The desire is to have added ability to assist any individual wanting to overcome drug addiction more achievable."

Carter praised the cooperation between numerous local, state and federal agencies in western Kentucky as they fight drug crime.

At the press conference, McGuire also announced the arrest of a man on trafficking charges, which stemmed from a recent drowning in Kentucky Lake. See more on that story at the link below.
