Two men were arrested Friday morning on multiple drug-related charges after deputies checked on a vehicle in a church parking lot.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Department was contacted just before 8 am by an officer with Marshall County Alcoholic Beverage Control because he spotted a vehicle in the parking lot of Benton Church of Christ and it appeared the two people inside were asleep.

A deputy spoke to the men, and also spotted a syringe with an unknown liquid in it. Further investigation led to the reported discovery of multiple baggies containing suspected methamphetamine, a large bag of an unidentified substance, digital scales, multiple empty baggies, and various pills identified as Xanax, Clonazepam and Zolpidem. The driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old Brandon L. Fitch of Paducah, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance - meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, trafficking in legend drugs, and three counts of possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree.

The Sheriff's Department says the passenger, 21-year-old Robert W. Stephens of Calvert City, was searched along with his belongings. That search reportedly led to the seizure of suspected meth, digital scales, a metal spoon and a bag of an unknown substance. Stephens was arrested for possession of a forged prescription for a legend drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking in legend drugs, and trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.

Both men were taken to Marshall County Detention Center. Seized substances will be submitted to the state crime lab for analysis.
