A woman was arrested early Saturday morning after shots were fired during a welfare check.
McCracken County Sheriff's deputies went to a home on Ivo Wurth Road south of Lone Oak to perform a welfare check on 59-year-old Sharon Caldwell. While the deputies were standing near the door, two shots were fired from inside the home, coming through the door and almost hitting the officers.
Caldwell was taken into custody after it was determined that she was the only person in the home at the time. She was charged with two counts of wanton endangerment of a police officer and was taken to McCracken County Jail.
Sheriff Matt Carter said, "“I am extremely thankful no one was injured during this event. This is one of many examples of how law enforcement can be placed in harm’s way at any given moment."
