A Princeton couple was killed in a crash along I-69 that involved a motorcycle and a semi on Thursday night.

Kentucky State Police said that 55-year-old Michael McAlister and 57-year-old Laura McAlister died in the crash that happened at about the 75-mile marker on the northbound side of I-69. Troopers said they were called in by Caldwell County Dispatch at about 8:20 p.m.

The semi driver, Gregory Standard of Louisville, told troopers that the motorcycle the McAlisters were riding developed an equipment issue of some kind. Standard said he was behind them as the motorcycle went out of control, and he was unable to avoid them.

The northbound lanes were closed for an extended period of time from the US 62 interchange in Lyon County to the Princeton exit.

The two were pronounced dead at the scene by the Caldwell County Coroner. Standard was not injured.

No charges have been filed in the case. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
