A shooting in Crittenden County has at least injured two people, including a law enforcement officer.
The Crittenden Press was on the scene at a home along KY 365 in northern Crittenden County between Mattoon and Sturgis. According to their reporting, the incident took place at about 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Preliminary indications are that police went to the home on a welfare check. At some point during the incident, an officer and another person in the home exchanged gunfire. The law enforcement officer was reportedly flown to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
There was no other information on the second person, but The Crittenden Press did say that the Coroner was at the residence. It was also reported that an elderly woman was taken to a hospital, but was apparently not injured in the shooting.
The Press was told by KSP Captain Derek Smith that the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team was there and leading the investigation.
In addition to the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office and Marion Police, the Lyon, Livingston, and Caldwell County Sheriff’s Offices had been on scene assisting. Many of those agencies had pledged support and said they would provide officers and deputies to cover patrols in Crittenden County in the interim.
