A single-vehicle crash after a police pursuit shut down a portion of KY 94 east of Murray early Monday morning.

According to a joint news release from the Murray Police Department and the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, an Murray police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a pickup at approximately  2:07 a.m. Monday, but the vehicle fled from the officer.

The pursuit continued until just after 2:30 a.m. on KY 94 near Knight Road. Investigators believe a pickup driven by 19-year-old Quincy W. Tobergte may have had a possible tire failure. The truck crossed the centerline and went off the road, then hit a pair of parked cars and a utility pole.

Tobergte was reportedly ejected, and the truck landed on him before catching fire. He was transported to an out-of-state hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the crash, and Calloway County deputies are investigating the events that led to the pursuit.

KY 94 was closed for several hours for investigation and cleanup.
