Driver Killed in Three-Semi Wreck on I-57

A man was killed and another was hurt Thursday in a crash in Union County involving three semi tractor-trailers.

According to Illinois State Police, troopers responded at around 2:20 p.m. to a crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 57 near mile marker 33. 

Troopers said 67-year-old Philip Lawrence was attempting to turn around in the center median, when his truck was struck in the rear by another semi driven by 60-year-old Lester Barr. Barr's semi then traveled through the median and struck another truck head-on.

Barr was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the third semi, 40-year-old Brian Breedlove was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
