The Illinois Department of Public Health announced Thursday that a person in Williamson County has been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. It's the first positive test in that county in extreme southern Illinois. Jackson County also has one diagnosis from earlier this week.

IDPH also announced that three more people have died from COVID-19. They are a Will County resident in his 50s, a Cook County resident in her 80s, and an out-of-state resident in her 70s who was in Sangamon County. The first death in Illinois was reported Tuesday, a Chicago resident in her 60s.

As of Thursday, there are 422 cases in 22 of Illinois' 102 counties, with patients ranging in age from 9 to 99 years old. On Monday, there were 105 cases.

On Wednesday, officials confirmed an outbreak at a long-term care facility in DuPage County has grown to 42 people - 30 residents and 12 staff.

In their Thursday press release, the IDPH said, "The number of COVID-19 cases being reported is rising quickly, partly because of the increase in testing by commercial and hospital laboratories. While these numbers are concerning, it’s not unexpected and the more robust information will allow us to better understand and track the size and scope of the outbreak and strengthen prevention and response efforts."
