Joppa Man Charged with Gun, Probation Violations

A Joppa man was arrested Sunday for violation of probation and possession of a weapon.

The Massac County Sheriff's Office says deputies got a tip Sunday that 20-year-old Austin Lewis of Joppa was seen standing outside the Bunchman Apartments. Deputies arrived and determined Lewis had gone into an apartment and fled out a window during their search.

Deputies said they later learned Lewis was hiding in a home in the 200 block of Joppa North Avenue. They searched the home and found Lewis inside hiding.

Lewis was arrested and booked into the Massac County Detention Center. He's charged with petition to revoke probation on theft, domestic battery and possession of a firearm without a FOID card.
