One employee told West Kentucky Star he was keeping his job, but approximately 40 others will lose theirs.
The plant opened a second kiln last spring, but it has not been continuously running. A company official told WSIL-TV that demand has not been what they expected.
The employee said he was told layoffs will be effective in December.
Workers were notified earlier this month, since federal laws require at least 60 days notice.
A media relations representative for LaFarge has not responded to requests for comment or additional information.
