Southern IL Man Gets 11 Years in Fatal DUI Wreck

MARION, IL - A southern Illinois man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for driving impaired when he struck and killed a pedestrian more than two years ago.
Nineteen-year-old Larry Sanders III was sentenced Tuesday in Williamson County, where he pleaded guilty in November to a charge of aggravated driving under the influence.
Authorities contend Sanders caused the September 2009 wreck that killed 18-year-old Teneva Archie of Colp as the victim was walking with a friend.
Herrin police say Sanders initially left the scene of the accident but later turned himself over to police.
During the sentencing hearing, Circuit Judge John Speroni was reluctant to call Archie's death an accident, saying Sanders was driving 77 mph in a 25-mph residential zone.
