UPDATE:  The crash scene at mile marker 1 has cleared on the eastbound side of I-24. The accident on the westbound lanes has also cleared so traffic should be flowing in both directions on I-24 near exits 3 and 4.

Original Story:
Traffic on I-24 East is blocked and the line of cars has extended into Illinois after a crash on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River.

The accident is near the 1-mile marker. There is no official word on how long traffic will be affected.

Drivers from Illinois are encouraged to use the Brookport Bridge into Paducah, but large trucks are not permitted on that bridge.

Westbound traffic is also backing up at the bridge due to drivers that have slowed, and a crash may have taken place on these lanes, too, but it's not been confirmed.

Local drivers are encouraged to avoid Interstate 24 near exits 3 and 4 in Paducah and exit 37 in Metropolis until further notice.
