The National Weather Service in Paducah has expanded a winter weather advisory for the Ohio River counties of western Kentucky, as well as southeast Missouri and southern Illinois for today until 6 pm.

Freezing rain is expected. Additional ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch are possible.

Light icing is expected across portions of southwestern Indiana, western Kentucky and southern Illinois.

Slick travel conditions are likely to develop, especially on bridges and overpasses. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Looking ahead, a winter storm system may bring accumulating snows to the region Saturday night and Sunday. The weather service said Wednesday afternoon it was still too early to pin down snowfall amounts.

Wind chills below zero could also be part of the weekend weather picture.
