FRIDAY UPDATE;
A brief tornado struck western Kentucky as a line of storms crossed over from the Missouri Bootheel earlier this week, according to the National Weather Service in Paducah.

A NWS damage survey revealed an EF-1 tornado hit Fulton County on Tuesday evening. The tornado had estimated peak winds of 100 mph and a path length of just under six miles.

The maximum width of the tornado reached approximately 30 yards. It began just east of Hickman on Highway 94, moved southeast through open country, and ended near Rice Lane and Highway 166. The tornado was on the ground from 6:42 to 6:48 p.m.

The tornado caused damage to three power poles and resulted in minor tree damage. No injuries were reported.


ORIGINAL STORY:
Strong to severe thunderstorms were scattered but intense on Tuesday, especially along a line from the Missouri Bootheel then along the Kentucky-Tennessee border.

A 61-mile-per-hour wind gust was recorded on a personal weather station in Dorena, Missouri at 6:30 p.m, then at 6:45, power poles were broken by high winds 3 miles east of Hickman, Kentucky.

A brief tornado warning for a radar-indicated storm was issued in Fulton County at 6:30 p.m.

One-inch hail was reported in several locations, including Scott City, Missouri; Cayce, Kentucky; and South Fulton and Martin, Tennessee. 

Frequent lightning was also part of the later line of storms, including a separate line in southern Illinois.
