The heat and humidity that have been baking the region for much of July have led to energy demand peaks for TVA.
The highest demand numbers of the summer thus far came earlier this week. TVA said that on Wednesday, they reached a peak of 31,888 megawatts of electricity. The network hit over 31,000 megawatts two other times in July. One of those was on Tuesday, when it hit 31,563 megawatts. The other happened back on July 17th when the system demanded 31,644 megawatts of power. All three of those days required more energy than the highest demand day in 2024.
TVA said that these peaks show the increasing demand across the service area. They also said that even at lower temperatures, the demand shows signs of growth.
The highest demand peaks in TVA’s history came in January 2024 and 2025, when the region hit peaks over 35,000 megawatts.
